Conservation

The Civic Amenities Act 1969 gave local councils the power to designate as Conservation Areas, "areas of special architectural or historic interest, the character or appearance of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance". Designation gives control over the demolition of buildings and provides the basis for policies and schemes designed to preserve or enhance those aspects of character or appearance that define an area's special interest. They are designated usually because of their buildings but they can also be designated because of their history, architecture, layout or private spaces, such as gardens and parks; trees or street furniture.

f you live within a conservation area, we recommend contacting your local council for advice on replacing windows & doors.

If you own or occupy a Listed Building,  Listed building consent is required for any works you wish to carry out.

To carry out work without consent is an offence and firm penalties can be imposed by the courts.

The owner of a listed building has a duty to preserve it and failure to do so may lead the Council to serve a notice stating those works it considers necessary to ensure its preservation. The Council also has powers to carry out emergency repairs itself and to recover the cost.

There is no fee for application for listed building consent. (Contact your local council for more information on listed building consent)

We have several products that have been accepted in conservation areas.

The Palladio Collection composite doors

All Palladio Doors begin their journey embodying the essence of natural beauty, inspired by the authentic charm of real oak timber doors. The initial step in creating a Palladio Door involves a meticulous process where the unique grain of a genuine oak door is carefully captured. This is achieved by applying a specially formulated gel mould to the oak surface, ensuring every subtle nuance and pattern of the wood's grain is accurately replicated. Once the grain's intricate details are lifted, this imprint serves as the blueprint for the next stage.

The detailed grain is then masterfully transferred onto the Palladio composite door material. This advanced technique allows for the recreation of the oak's natural grain with remarkable precision, endowing each Palladio Door with a finish that mirrors the organic beauty and texture of real wood. By combining traditional aesthetics with modern materials, Palladio Doors not only emulate the classic appearance of oak but also offer enhanced durability, energy efficiency, and security. This synthesis of form and function ensures that each door is not only a testament to the beauty of natural wood but also a practical, long-lasting entrance solution for any home.
