What does the Master Fitter Challenge entail?
To reach this stage of this years competition, Steven has had to undergo a rigorous telephone interview, as well as a probing site visit by some of the United Kingdom’s most qualified and experienced fenestration assessors. It really isn’t easy to reach this stage of the challenge; no stone is left unturned to ensure that an elite group of professional window, door and conservatory installers are to compete at the FIT show.
The format of this years challenge is similar to that of 2013. During the first two days of the FIT Show in Telford, eight installers will work to a strict criteria which will be monitored by assessors GQA. Steven and the seven other candidates will all be expected to install a window and a residential door, with the additional ‘tripping hazard’ of a ‘resi’ door which has some ‘devious’ faults built into it. Altogether, the aim of this challenge is to mimic real life working conditions. The FIT Master Fitter Challenge is not just about outright speed, but efficient installation whilst still observing installation best practices. This also includes consideration of various health and safety procedures and also great customer-care.
All of this will take place under the watchful eye of thousands of peers from within the fitting industry as well as visitors to the FIT show which this year will be held in Telford on June 10th – 12th. The chance to compete for honour, professional pride and a chunk of the £10,000 prize fund is an excellent opportunity for Steven to showcase his skills and for Conwy Valley Windows to truly put ourselves on the radar of the wider installation community.
In addition to the Master Fitter Challenge, there will be a competition for the Sales Professional of the Year which is being organised by Quotatis during this year’s event.
There is always plenty of exciting things happening at the FIT Show. The event aims to champion the very best in window, door and conservatory companies and fitters in the UK. Additionally, there will also be plenty of other interesting things to keep visitors entertained.
For the 2014 event, the business seminar programme will provide a programme of topics in order to educate and make a huge difference to those who are in attendance. The formal seminar programme is integrated with the presentations which aim to provide a jam packed and memorable programme.
The Gala Dinner
After Steven competes at the FIT Show, there will be an anxious waiting period before the eventual winner is announced at the Gala Dinner on the 17th of June. The name of the winner will be kept a strict secret between the FIT Show and Gala dinner before it is announced at the dinner!
The Gala dinner is a great chance for attendees to get dressed up and enjoy a fantastic banquet, party and top entertainment from actress, comedian and ventriloquist Nina Conti. There will be a number of key speakers present as well as the trade show’s main sponsors. The black tie event includes a champagne reception and oddly, a giant scalextric track which will allow guests to compete for prizes, as well as a Monte Carlo style casino which will be raising money for charity.
After last years inaugural FIT show and Master Fitter Challenge, this years event promises to be even bigger and better. The event provides the perfect opportunity for the industry to network with only the very best members of the UK’s glass and glazing industry. Last year there were over 6,000 visitors and 170 companies exhibiting the FIT show.
