Here at Conwy Valley Windows, we’re not just a window design and installation company. We are great at doing that, in fact we’re experts, but it’s not the only superb service we can offer our customers. We are also rather good at designing and installing various types of doors too!
Our selection of doors is rather impressive – we can provide you with virtually any type you want, in any design and any colour. As we also design and install conservatories here at Conwy Valley Windows, we come into contact with other, larger types of doors, such as French doors and what are known as ‘bi-folding’ doors. The latter are becoming increasingly popular in homes through the United Kingdom – especially ones which feature extensions and conservatories, as they are space-saving, good looking and ingenious in their design. We produce and implement bi-folding doors into many homes every year, and the number is growing with each one that passes.
What exactly is a bi-folding door?
As you can probably guess by its name, a bi-folding door involves two (or more) different door panels – and they fold in pairs. One of the main ideas of this system is to save space – which it does spectacularly.
Many people choose to have bi-folding doors installed at the back of their homes, in order to facilitate a seamless transition between their house and their garden. When you open bi-folding doors, they slide open – but not like traditional sliding doors. As you can see from the picture, they fold against one another and can completely open up the door area.
When you do have your bi-folding doors open, it’s much harder to distinguish exactly where the home ends and the garden area begins – which we at Conwy Valley Windows think is great. Especially during the summer you’ll be wondering how you ever lived without them, as they allow you to enjoy your garden area much more than you ever have before.
Due to the fact that they save so much space, bi-folding doors are arguably overtaking the traditional style French doors and sliding doors which you find on many extensions and conservatories. Don’t get us wrong – we still think these are great – but bi-folding doors are perfect for those who really want to open up their home, as opposed to get in and out of it.
Why bi-folding doors will vastly improve your home
This incredibly clever system boasts a number of benefits on top of the fact that they create a seamless transition between your home and your garden area.
An attractive aesthetic – There’s also the aesthetic advantages they bring – they’re really good looking when they’re open, closed or even halfway between. The idea of these doors is to allow you to do whatever you want with your living space – in the height of summer you’ll be able to have them open all day long and can alternate between the living room and the garden if you wish.
Vastly improved lighting – Given that the vast majority of the surface area on bi-folding doors is glass, they can let an extraordinary amount of light into your home. This will be something you can enjoy all year round, as even in winter when they’re closed you’ll notice how much brighter your living room is because of them. Also, as you can probably imagine, they make for a glorious living space in summer – again, this is both when they’re open and when they’re closed.
Functionality and practicality – When all is said and done, it doesn’t matter how great or ornate a door looks if it doesn’t perform a function and allow you to get in and out of different spaces with ease. Luckily, bi-folding doors are about as practical as you could ever want a set of doors to be. For instance, if you have a set fitted at the back of your home, when you open them up you’ll be able to fit virtually anything you want through. This could prove extremely handy when moving house and trying to get furniture out in one piece, but also more mundane things like moving items in and out of the house, without trying to squeeze it through a front or back door.
A range of designs – If you have a period home, or one which is decorated in a classic style, you may be wondering whether bi-folding doors would contradict the design or aesthetic you’ve got going on throughout the rest of the house. However, you needn’t worry – we can design bi-folding doors in any style or finish you would like.
If you’d like them to look wooden, we can use our state-of-the-art technology to make this happen – it can make PVCu look just like wood, and it’s extremely hard to tell the difference. What’s more, they’ll be much easier to clean than wood, as PVCu can be cleaned with a quick wipe of a cloth!
A range of colours – This fits in with the above – you can have pretty much any colour you want. Whether you want the highly popular white, a jade green colour, or anything else, it’s no problem whatsoever. All you need to do is let us know what sort of colour you’re after – the more information we have from you regarding what you want, the better!
